World record holder David Rudisha had a rare loss in the 800 meters Sunday, finishing second to Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia at the Milan Notturna meet. The 17-year-old Aman passed Rudisha entering the final straight at Milan's 19th century Arena Civica and edged the Kenyan to the line in 1 minute, 43.50 seconds – with Rudisha crossing seven hundredths behind. Rudisha clocked 1:41.33 in Rieti a week ago for the best time this year, slightly off his world mark of 1:41.01 set there last year. Last year's IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Rudisha had been virtually unbeatable since failing to advance from the semifinals at the 2009 world championships in Berlin. In other events, double amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius of South Africa won the 400 in a respectable 45.97, considering that the track was flooded with water by a rainstorm; Commonwealth Games champion Silas Kiplagat of Kenya took the 1,500 in 3:33.28; and recently crowned world champion Olha Saladuha of Ukraine won the women's triple jump with a leap of 14.94 meters.
