Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz warned at a media forum here Wednesday evening against using high-technology communication tools like the Internet “to deceive youths and steer them towards evil.” The world is leaning towards communication and dialogue, Prince Turki said at the opening of the first Communication and Information Forum organized by King Faisal Center for Islamic Research and Studies. Prince Turki heads the Center. The forum was attended by a world elite of media and public relations specialists. “We are currently in dire need of utilizing these high technology means of communication to serve true Islam and our sublime goals of serving humanity,” Prince Turki said, calling for harnessing such technology for the cause of promoting inter-cultural dialogue and interaction. Saudi Arabia remains steadfast in its policy of furthering communication and dialogue with others so as to expand the scope of human understanding, he said. “We should now press for adopting a suitable methodology and carefully selected tools because communication could also be used to serve devilish purposes,” Al-Watan Arabic daily cited him as saying. The Ministry of Interior periodically issues warnings to the public about terrorist groups seeking to recuit young males and females through the Internet and direct them towards committing acts of violence. “What makes such means of communication very dangerous is that they are at the disposal of all, particularly the young who become exposed to devious thoughts and malicious calls to commit the most heinous of crimes,” Prince Turki said. __
