The Ministry of Labor is opening new channels to facilitate the recruitment of domestic workers from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Yemen, Sudan and other countries, said Deputy Minister of Labor Dr. Moufarrej Hagbani, Saturday. Nothing prevents the approval of requests to recruit domestic workers, he aid. The ministry in coordination with the National Committee for Recruitment is making all efforts to speed up and facilitate the arrival of domestic workers from these countries, said Hagbani. He said that the ministry is working on procedures that ensure the rights of both parties – the employer and the employee. The new measures follow a ban on the recruitment of domestic workers from some countries because of conditions imposed by these countries. The Kingdom has experienced a number of problems with the recruitment of domestic workers, including those who are poorly trained or run away from their sponsors. Authorities put a ban on the recruitment of domestic workers from Indonesia and Philippines after these countries imposed unacceptable conditions. The Indonesian conditions include requirements that anyone who employs a housemaid from that country must provide pictures of all family members, a recognized certificate of good conduct, a certificate proving that the employer has no criminal record and a map showing the location of the residence.
