David Ortiz had an RBI single on the first pitch he saw in 10 days and scored twice in his return to Boston's lineup, a 13-2 victory over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers Wednesday. Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury and Adrian Gonzalez hit two-run homers in consecutive innings for the Red Sox, who took over first place in the AL East after the New York Yankees lost 6-4 in 10 innings to Oakland. Crawford matched a career high with his five RBIs. Josh Beckett (11-5) allowed one run and four hits over six innings. Ortiz was back in the lineup after missing nine games because of bursitis in his right heel. Mike Napoli homered and had an RBI single for the Rangers, who have lost five of seven. Mariners 9, Indians 2: Felix Hernandez shook off a hard fall on a fielding play to strike out 10, Wily Mo Pena drove in four runs and the Seattle Mariners chased Cleveland's Josh Tomlin before the sixth inning in a rout that left the Indians' playoff hopes flickering. Hernandez (12-11) allowed two runs in six innings as the last-place Mariners took three of four from the fading-fast Indians. Cleveland dropped below .500 for the first time since April 3. The Indians are 6½ games behind AL Central-leading Detroit, which plays at Tampa Bay tonight. Rockies beat Astros In Denver, Troy Tulowitzki scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the Houston Astros 7-6 Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. Tulowitzki reached on a one-out walk and went to third on Jonathan Herrera's single to center. After an intentional walk to Kevin Kouzmanoff, reliever Aneury Rodriguez (1-5) uncorked a wild pitch to Eliezer Alfonzo and Tulowitzki trotted home with the winning run. Mark Ellis had four hits, and Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez each homered for the Rockies, who have won five straight for the first time since April 15. Clint Barmes homered and Brian Bogusevic had three hits for Houston, which has dropped four straight. Matt Belisle (9-4), the Rockies' fifth pitcher, got the win. Pirates 2, Brewers 0: Aaron Thompson pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his major-league debut, Jason Grilli won his first game in nearly two years and four Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers combined on a five-hitter in a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
