Altuve's inside-the-parkhome run lifts Astros
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 08 - 2011

the-park drive for his first major league home run, a leadoff shot that sent the Houston Astros over the San Francisco Giants 7-5 Saturday night.
Altuve had three hits and J.D. Martinez homered, doubled and drove in four runs as the Astros matched a season high with their fourth straight win. Jordan Lyles (2-7) gave up two runs, both of them unearned, in five innings. Mark Melancon got two outs for his 13th save.
Aubrey Huff homered and Cody Ross and Pablo Sandoval each drove in two runs for the Giants.
Cubs 3, Cardinals 0: For once, the Cubs gave Matt Garza a little support at Wrigley Field. Turned out he didn't need much. Garza pitched seven sharp innings, Aramis Ramirez homered and Chicago beat the St. Louis Cardinals.
Garza (6-9) scattered five hits, struck out eight and won at home for the first time since June 27.
Sean Marshall, Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol finished off the shutout. Marmol earned his 29th save in 37 chances.
Pirates 5, Reds 3: Neil Walker had two RBI singles, the second driving in Andrew McCutchen with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds. Walker's hit off of Aroldis Chapman (2-1) was his third hit of the game, and Brandon Wood followed with an RBI double, allowing Pittsburgh to improve to 8-3 against the Reds this season.
Brewers 11, Mets 9: Prince Fielder hit a home run that went a long way, then his single put the Milwaukee Brewers as far out in front as they ever have been.
His key hit in the ninth inning tied the game after former Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez helped waste a six-run lead, and Casey McGehee followed Fielder with a two-run single that lifted the Brewers to a win over New York.
Rockies 7, Dodgers 6, 13 innings: Dexter Fowler atoned for a crucial mistake by hitting an RBI single with two outs that gave the Rockies a win over the Dodgers.
Fowler misplayed a line drive by Trent Oletjen into an inside-the-park homer in the 12th that gave Los Angeles a 6-4 lead.
But Fowler led off the bottom half with a walk and scored when Todd Helton doubled on the 15th pitch from Javy Guerra.
Braves 8, Diamondbacks 1: Dan Uggla homered twice and drove in three runs, Brandon Beachy gave up only one run in six innings and the Braves continued to feast on the top teams in the NL West by beating the Diamondbacks.
Uggla's two-run homer in the first gave Atlanta the lead. Uggla and Freddie Freeman hit back-to-back homers in the seventh.
Phillies 5, Nationals 0: Roy Oswalt pitched eight-hit ball for eight innings, Wilson Valdez and Jimmy Rollins each drove in two runs and Hunter Pence homered to lead the Phillies over the Nationals.
Padres 14, Marlins 1: Orlando Hudson homered and drove in four runs, Nick Hundley also homered in going 4 for 4 and the San Diego Padres romped past the slumping Florida Marlins.
