All flood prevention projects in Jeddah are being monitored closely by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, said here Saturday. Prince Khaled said the King has been asking for updates on a regular basis. While chairing a meeting of the Executive Committee, which is tasked with overseeing the flood projects, Prince Khaled said King Abdullah had directed him to intensify efforts to ensure the projects are completed successfully. Prince Khaled said he hoped the projects would not only permanently solve the flood problems in the city but will also introduce a new way of managing mega projects in the Kingdom. “The state and citizens have great hopes for this project. Citizens are eagerly following all announcements and new developments.” During the meeting Prince Khaled also discussed other issues with committee members, including the minutes of previous gatherings and a review of engineering and various field accomplishments. Prince Khaled renewed his call for the eastern ring road project to be completed within three years. He said there should be no excuses for delays because the project has been fully funded. The meeting was attended by Prince Mish'al Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Jeddah; Dr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al-Khudhair, Undersecretary of the governorate in Makkah region; Ahmad Abdul Aziz Al-Saleem, Director General of the Rainwater and Flood Drainage Project in Jeddah Governorate; and Jeddah Mayor Dr. Hani Abu Ras among others.
