Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, President of Meteorology and Environment (PME), has ordered the creation of a unit to protect the ozone layer. The new unit will conduct surveys and provide information and details about substances which deplete the ozone layer. Prince Turki Bin Nasser said the creation of the unit reflects the Kingdom's determination to honor its regional and international commitments and efforts to conserve the environment. The unit will prepare reports to send to agencies involved in importing and using substances that deplete the ozone layer. He said the unit is also responsible for carrying out comprehensive surveys and analyses of national laws and drafting new legislation if the need arises. He said the unit will coordinate efforts with customs and other sectors which are connected to the Montreal Protocol. __
