An Indonesian maid is seen working in a Saudi household. — Archives Okaz/Saudi Gazette RIYADH – Desperate for housemaids in Ramadan, Saudi families have started offering up to SR4,000 for a maid on classified ad strips on satellite channels. Female Indonesian maids are in demand the most with offers ranging from SR3,500-SR4,000 for Ramadan. The demand for Kenyan maids follows closely with SR3,000-SR3,500, while Sri Lankans are being offered SR2,500-SR3,000. Such offers during Ramadan lead many maids to runaway from their sponsors for earning a lucrative amount in one month. People who hire such maids do not have them on their sponsorship, which is illegal according to Kingdom's labor regulations. Some Saudis, however, approach recruitment offices for hiring domestic workers in Ramadan. A recruitment office owner said during Ramadan the hiring of maids increases. People are ready to pay by the hour for domestic help. Recruitment offices receive a large number of calls enquiring about housemaids with lucrative offers of payment per hour during the holy month, he added. __
