Kolb to Cardinals; Haynesworth to Pats
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 07 - 2011

The Arizona Cardinals got their quarterback, working out a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for Kevin Kolb, as the wheeling and dealing intensified Thursday in the National Football League's (NFL) abbreviated offseason.
Philadelphia sent Kolb, who lost the Eagles starting job last season to Michael Vick, to the Cardinals in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round draft pick, according to the NFL Network.
As part of the deal, Kolb agreed to a five-year contract extension worth 63.5 million with $21 million guaranteed, the network said, citing a league source.
The Cardinals had a major drop off last year to a 5-11 season following the retirement of quarterback Kurt Warner who led them to the NFC West title the two previous years and a trip to the Super Bowl following the 2008 season.
Rodgers-Cromartie, a first-round draft pick by Arizona in 2008, started all but five games since he was drafted and has registered a total of 13 interceptions. The Kolb trade, which was widely anticipated, followed two big swaps revealed earlier in the day with disgruntled defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth and running back Reggie Bush both changing teams.
The New England Patriots agreed a trade with the Washington Redskins for Haynesworth, while the versatile Bush was being shipped from the New Orleans Saints to the Miami Dolphins, according to the NFL Network.
Haynesworth, who failed to meet all the hype and expectations associated with his seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins in 2009, was obtained for a fifth-round draft pick in 2013.
Bush saw the writing on the wall that it was time to move on after the Saints used their first-round draft pick this year to claim former Heisman Trophy winning running back Mark Ingram.
The New England Patriots, meanwhile, acquired flamboyant receiver Chad Ochocinco from the Cincinnati Bengals, the National Football League's website reported Thursday.
As part of the deal, Ochocinco, who legally changed his name from Chad Johnson in 2008, will receive a three-year deal replacing the one year he had remaining on his contract.
