The Little Firefighter program at the Aramco Summer Festival here has trained 350 children in the principles of fire safety. Children, dressed in fire-fighting uniforms, were introduced to fire dangers and ways to avoid them, as well as fire risks they might face at home and ways to avoid fire accidents. The youngsters were also trained in the correct way to use a kitchen stove. As part of the training program, a miniature house was set up with a video screen with images of flames making it look like a house on fire. The young firefighters fought the flames with a fire extinguisher, which had a timer that went off when the contents were empty. In this way, children learned how to select the right fire extinguisher and the correct way to put out a fire. Children were also introduced to the dangers of electricity. A toy sitting on a box with smoke coming out of the box was used during this drill. The smoke indicated that the toy was on fire. In this way, youngsters learned about the dangers of overcharged electric wires and what to do if a fire starts because of an electrical fault. In a related development, the King Abdul Aziz Public Library pavilion at the festival, which included a library of books for children, had over 5,000 visitors in the first week. Asma Al-Dakheel, the pavilion supervisor, said that the pavilion offered a number of reading activities so that children learn to love books and develop their cognitive abilities in different fields. Apart from the reading activities, the pavilion offered reading guidance, a story series and theater activities. Al-Dakheel thanked Aramco for holding the festival which was enjoyed by all the members of the family and for allowing King Abdul Aziz Public Library to take part. __
