Okaz/Saudi Gazette 12 brands of dairy products available in the Kingdom The total daily production of fresh milk is 4.3 million liters There are about 22 dairy farms, including three large ones JEDDAH – To circumvent the Ministry of Commerce's decision against increase in the prices of dairy products, some companies have reduced milk content in SR1 bottles from 200 ml to 180 ml without reducing the price. “They are trying to fool us by getting around the system,” said Rayan Al-Taweel, a consumer. Dr. Mazin Al-Tunsi, a member of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, warned dairy companies against tampering with prices or weights. Dr. Nasser Al-Tweam, President of the Consumer Protection Association (CPA), said his organization will take action against manipulation by dairy companies. “The CPA will set up a quality control center to compare price to the quality and ingredients of the product,” he said. Salman Al-Madhi, another consumer, said that these companies blatantly violated the laws and decisions of the Ministry of Commerce. Last week, Almarai Company canceled its recent SR1 increase in the prices of its two-liter fresh milk and laban packs in compliance with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry resolution which warned dairy companies against arbitrarily increasing prices of fresh milk and laban packs. Abdullah Bin Ahmad Zainal Alireza, Commerce and Industry Minister, issued a decision to subject fresh milk and laban prices to rules addressing the supply of goods in extraordinary conditions. There are about 12 brands of dairy products available in the Kingdom. The total daily production of fresh milk amounts to 4.3 million liters.
