Muttaw'a goal handed Kuwait a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the FUCHS International Quartet Championship final at Amman International Stadium Saturday. In the third spot match, played earlier in the evening, Jordan beat Iraq 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the two teams finished 1-1 in regulation time. It was in the 70th minute that a one-two between Al-Muttaw'a and Fahd Al-Enezi resulted in the Kuwaiti goal. Al-Enezi took advantage of a defensive mistake by Saudi substitute Waleed Abdrabou and passed it to Al-Muttaw'a, who pushed it back to Al-Enezi before receiving the ball again and shooting it into the left corner of Saudi keeper Hasan Al-Otaibi. The two teams started carefully until the ninth minute when the advancing Saudi midfielder, Nawaf Al-Abed, hit a perfect kick from outside the zone which was denied by Kuwait keeper Khaled Al-Reshiedy. In the 20th minute, Kuwait's Hamad Al-Enezi jumped to direct a cross into the Green net, but missed the ball. Al-Abed replied three minutes later with a strong kick from outside the box, but Al-Reshiedy disappointed him again. There were more near misses in the first by both the sides in the first half. The Saudi players looked a better side after the break, but had few answers for the young Kuwaiti winger Fahd Al-Enezi. The second half also saw the bar and the post playing a key role in denying the strikers. Kuwaiti Al-Masha'an's shot went inches over the bar in the 56th minute, while Saudi player Mo'ath's similar attempt hit the Kuwaiti bar two minutes later. After that goal, however, the Blues looked in complete control of the game, while their Saudi counterparts only made a few attempts. The friendly championship provided the four teams a good chance to prepare for the World Cup 2014 qualifiers. __
