HRC to open offices across country

The Human Rights Commission is planning to open new offices in all regions of the Kingdom, according to Dr. Zaid Bin Abdulmuhsin Aal Hussein, the organization's vice president.
A national campaign will be launched with the openings to get people acquainted with human rights and educate them about their rights.
Domestic violence in the Kingdom tops the Commission's list of priorities, Dr. Aal Hussein said, and educating the society leads to solving many problems. “A line must be placed between [parents'] discipline and abuse,” he said.
There are various forms of domestic violence in this age and it is worse when the abusers use drugs or liquor, lack a religious deterrent or face financial and psychological pressure, Dr. Aal Hussein said.
Human rights are original values that Islam has brought and has set conditions and criteria to protect the rights of people. But some people think the concept is new to our culture and that it is a product of the West. The truth is Islam has established that these values should be implemented by Muslims, he said.
The Kingdom is not new to implementing human rights, Dr. Aal Hussein noted. When he founded the Kingdom, King Abdul Aziz ordered that the country be ruled by the laws of Islamic Shariah.
Dr. Abduljaleel Al-Saif, a member of the Shoura Council and supervisor general of the National Society of Human Rights' branch in the Eastern Province, said the organization will open a new office in Al-Ahsa to help defend human rights, support the state's efforts in creating regulations related to human rights and its applications, and contribute in serving the society and its civil institutions.
Dr. Al-Saif said the Society's tasks include receiving complaints from all bodies and segments; verifying complaints about human-rights violations and excesses; field examinations of violations; reporting them to relevant authorities and following up with them; and issuing proposals and suggestions to government and private bodies to work on educating people and disseminating information about human rights.
Other tasks include organizing local and international symposiums, forums and seminars, and issuing research papers on human rights, he added. __
