An awareness workshop for women seeking information relating to elections, nomination and voting will be held here Sunday. “Many Saudi women lack the basics of the election procedures. The workshop aims to apprise women of their rights in an election, decision-making process, competing with men, and other such aspects to help them adapt to the election culture,” Dr. Naelah Attar, member of Consultant Offices Committee in Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and member of Saudi Business and Professional Women's Association and Industry, and organizer of the workshop, said. “There are many women willing to fight election while some others want advice on voting; but not all of them are competent enough to participate in such fields. This workshop will act as catalyst for Saudi women and support them in accepting the many challenges involved,” Dr. Naelah Attar said. She said a similar workshop in Jeddah was a grand sucess, and that the Riyadh Chamber for Commerce and Industry (RCCI) businesswomen are taking a similar initiative. The workshop will hold discussions on the lines of RCCI's role in preparing women for elections, its requirements and concepts, nomination, aims and responsibilities, planning for election campaign, and media relations. All business chambers in the Kingdom, the Municipal Council, government universities and schools will also supplement the effort. “We need to expand the election culture among Saudis. By conducting elections in schools, we can help students to make intelligent decisions,” Dr. Naela Attar said. __
