The Makkah Mayoralty has been awarded a certificate of environmental rehabilitation by the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment. Dr. Mohammed Al-Fotawi, Director General of Environmental Health, said the environmental health laboratory of Makkah Mayoralty uses state-of-the-art technology. The laboratory conducts tests on food, beverages and ice-cream samples to ensure they are compatible with quality standards and specifications, he added. “The laboratory conducts bacteriological and chemical tests to determine whether the laboratory should take legal measures against a food establishment,” said Al-Fotawi, pointing out that the laboratory measures are primarily preventive and seek to avoid cases of food poisoning. The laboratory is run completely by 24 qualified Saudi nationals who work in shifts, added Al-Fotawi. Moreover, an emergency team is in charge of taking food samples according to high standards. __
