JEDDAH: The first summer festival kicked off yesterday under the auspices of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) with a display of locally-produced artwork and handicrafts. The two-day gathering featured an “Originality and Creativity Exhibition” where participants and visitors were given an opportunity to sell and purchase hand-made modern and traditional artwork. There were also several workshops held for women. During the gathering, Lina Gazzaz, an artist, displayed some of her work and explained how she had become a professional artist. Jawahir Al-Zahrani, the supervisor of the gathering, said the goal of the event was “to explain the concept of handicraft work and train women to explore and use their artistic talents and creativity to find employment opportunities”.
