Beneficial plan n This refers to the article “Ministry considers 40-hour working week”. (June 24) I disagree with the view that the plan will have negative effects on productivity. Since the worker will get more time to relax he will be more productive in his work. More production outcome could be expected with this new scheme. It's a bright idea and should be implemented without any delay. Workers are not machines and, aside from that, the planners should also consider giving more Islamic holidays like in other Muslim countries. P. Pery, Online response II n I think it would benefit both the employees and the employers. When workers have more time to rest he will be more energetic to work. . H. M. Mujahid, Online respose A plea over new labor law n This refers to the article “Official denies vacation-bound workers stamped exit-only visas.” (June 21) If the complaint is true, this is not the proper way to implement the new nationalization law. If the government wants to give more employment to Saudis then new hiring opportunies should be given to Saudis. But the former expatriate workers should be allowed to continue working as long as they are needed by their companies. Not renewing the visas of foreign workers even if they are still needed by their employers is unfair. That is particularly true in my case. I had an opportunity to work in UK but I preferred to work here to be able to practice my religion. I am now in my mid-career and would suffer emotionally if I am not allowed to renew my visa.
