Rice prices continue to spiral in the capital even as prices of most commodities at markets included in the Riyadh's price index has shown a declining trend. Rice has now become dearer between SR10 and SR15 per 10 kg bag when compared to the last fortnight. Oranges and different rice brands are the only commodities selling for higher prices in Riyadh, Al-Watan said. Mohammad Hafiz, a salesman at a supplies store, said suppliers increase prices every week. He said some customers buy large quantities in one go resulting in high demand and high prices. Hafiz said the price of a 45-kg bag of Abu Kas rice is now being sold at SR285, an increase of SR20. Similar increase has been noticed in the price of Al-Waleemah brand. Strangely, there is a wide discrepancy seen in rice prices in different markets. __
