BURAIDAH: The committee in Qassim tasked with assessing the eligibility of aspiring voters in September's municipal council elections has removed the names of 464 persons from the list after they were found not to be based in their regional constituency. The committee, according to Al-Hayat Arabic daily, ruled out the 464 after looking into 1,000 individuals who had registered to vote in the region and declared its decision “final and irrevocable”. Solaiman Al-Ajjaji, chairman of the Qassim Election Appeals Ruling Committee, said that a total of over 30,000 persons in the region had registered to vote in the municipal elections scheduled for later this year. “A total of 464 voters have been removed from the register, 339 of them in the area of Al-Madhnab, 124 in the Qusaibaa' constituency, and one in Al-Shamasiya,” Al-Ajjaji said. Registration of votes closed. Voters throughout the Kingdom will cast votes for 1,632 seats in 258 municipal councils, a jump from 1,212 seats in 179 councils in 2005.
