RIYADH: A man of Arab nationality has been arrested on suspicion of using welding equipment to rob at least four ATM machines in the capital after he was interrupted in the act by the arrival of guards from a cash transport security firm. Police said Friday that when the security guards arrived to refill a cash dispenser a man carrying a black case ran out of the ATM cabin and across the road. The guards alerted a nearby police patrol who pursued the suspect and apprehended him, and upon investigation the number of incidents in which his involvement was deemed likely began to become apparent. Reports from banks in Al-Aziziya, Tuwaiq, Al-Rawdha, and Al-Manar all cited similar circumstances in which welding equipment had been used to access or attempt to access the contents of ATM units. Police said that the suspect confessed to all four instances when presented with the evidence before, which included the bag he had in possession when he was arrested containing welding equipment.
