RIYADH: As families prepare for a long summer vacation, Prince Salman Science Oasis (PSSO), the pioneer of TREP$ Marketplace, a popular after school program, has announced summer camps for children with various projects starting from Sunday. PSSO is a non-profit organization that works to promote creative activities including training programs for schoolchildren eight to 14 years old. Ehsan Zafar, Manager, TREP$ Marketplace, said PSSO is now gearing up to organize a number of training programs starting from Sunday. He said the training classes on topics such as industrial chemistry, calligraphy, art and painting, robotics and TREP$ Marketplace will be held at the PSSO facility in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter. “Registration is now open for workshops in different categories in the one-month summer camp,” Zafar said. He said PSSO targets youths of all nationalities and trains them to be creative in life. PSSO offers children a unique opportunity and provides a setting where they can learn modern science and technology by participating in programs that are also designed to preserve the traditional cultural values of Saudi society. ?Zafar said the basic goal of the Prince Salman Science Oasis is twofold: Firstly, to motivate children by offering them hands-on experience, and secondly, to improve their science literacy and encourage them to pursue careers in science. Headed by Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, who is also the President of the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), PSSO has been instrumental in promoting a culture of science and innovation and stimulating creative work among the nation's “budding scientists”. PSSO is known for promoting scientific innovation and creativity while educating schoolchildren through entertainment and raising technological awareness among the youth of various communities. It aims to introduce the latest scientific and technical advancement in various areas, highlight the role of Muslim scholars in scientific development, and build a bridge linking the Islamic scientific heritage with modern science. The Oasis through its extra-curricular activities has been encouraging young people to discover the world and choose their future careers as well as emphasizing the importance of science in nation-building.
