JEDDAH: The burgeoning short film industry in Saudi Arabia has led TROPFEST, one of the world's largest short film festivals, to hold a workshop here Thursday for film directors and all fans of cinema. The workshop is being held with a few to this year's TROPFEST Arabia in Abu Dhabi in November, the first staging of the event in the Arab World, which is an expansion of the original Australian festival. The festival competition is open to nationals of Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian territories, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, Yemen, as well as Saudi Arabia, and winners are awarded prizes running as high as $15,000.
