JEDDAH: The Ministry of Education is to introduce from the next academic year a ranking system for public education schools by which they will be classified according to performance and academic achievement. Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education, issued a circular to education administrations and offices informing them of the introduction of the classification which, it said, will be judged on examination results, teacher performance, academic environment and schools' ability to implement educational plans. Observance of performance will, the circular said, be carried out at all public and private schools throughout the year. A source told Okaz/Saudi Gazette Thursday that boys' and girls' education offices had already begun to introduce the ranking system “according to the criteria” and divide schools into four categories in terms of schools' “general standard”. “The criteria will be circulated to school heads so that they all know ahead of time how the system functions,” the source said. “It will come into effect with the beginning of the next school year.”
