BETHESDA, Maryland: Americans Gary Woodland and Brad Adamonis have earned the final spots in the 156-strong field for this week's US Open at Congressional Country Club. Woodland, who won his maiden PGA Tour title at the Transitions Championship in March, gained his place via the top 50 in the world rankings issued Monday. The 27-year-old climbed to 41st by finishing sixth in the Memorial tournament two weeks ago and edged up to 40th in this week's rankings. Adamonis was awarded his berth because tournament organizers had held back a spot in case multiple players gained exemptions through the top 50 in the rankings. The US Open starts Thursday when Britain's Graeme McDowell defends the title.
