Elizabeth Alexandra Mary aka Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 2, 1926. She ascended to the throne on June 2, 1953. She is the constitutional monarch of sixteen independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth realms. As Head of the Commonwealth, she is the figurehead of the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations; as the British monarch, she is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
