TAIF: The National Committee for Private Education at the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce is proposing a minimum salary of SR6,000 for Saudi teachers working at private schools. Yousif Al-Shafi, chairman of the committee, said the proposal, which entails a government subsidy of SR2,000 for every teacher, has been put to the relevant authorities. “The pay packet would also be comprised of SR2,000 from the Human Resources Development Fund on top of a basic SR2,000, bringing the total to SR6,000,” he said. “The proposal hopes to attract qualified Saudi jobseekers to private schools,” he said. “Ten percent of all students are in private education, but that figure is expected to rise to 25 percent, which would allow the government to make annual savings of SR10 billion.”
