Royal Jordanian (RJ) President and CEO Samer Majali has commenced his one-year term as chairman of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) board of governors, according to an announcement made during the 64th annual general meeting of IATA in Istanbul this week. Majali took over as chairman of the IATA board on June 2 and will hold the position until the 65th annual general meeting to be held in Kuala Lumpur in June next year, according to an RJ statement. Majali, a member of the board of governors since May 2005, has served in three main committees: chair, audit, and strategy and policy. The RJ president was selected for the presidency of the board in appreciation of the airline's role in IATA, its reputation in the field of air safety, IT systems and passenger services amongst international air carriers, and for its contribution to all international and regional assemblies. Majali is the first chief executive of an Arab and regional airline to hold the presidency.
