rounder Shahid Afridi, who was recently sacked as one-day captain, announced his retirement from international cricket Monday. Afridi told Geo News television he could no longer perform for a cricket board that did not respect its senior players. “I have decided to retire from international cricket because I am not in a mental frame of mind to continue playing under this board,” the 31-year-old said. Afridi, who retired from Tests last year but continued to lead the team in limited-over cricket, was removed as captain earlier this month by the Pakistan Cricket Board. His replacement, Misbah-ul-Haq, led the team in a 2-0 series win in Ireland. After returning from this year's 3-2 one-day series win in West Indies, Afridi complained of interference in his work. The hard-hitting batsman and leg-spin bowler played in 27 tests, 325 one-day games and 43 Twenty20s for his country. Afridi said his decision to retire was final, as he would not play under the current PCB, headed by chairman Ejaz Butt, but hinted at a comeback if there was a change in leadership. “This current board treats players roughly and I will not play under this setup. But if this set-up is changed only then will I consider coming back because I have always played for my people and will play for them.” Gayle left out Former skipper Chris Gayle has been left out of the West Indies squad to face India in the Twenty 20 clash and two opening one-dayers in a continuing stand-off with selectors. Gayle remains out of favor with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) after he was dropped for the recent home series against Pakistan, a decision which left him free to play in the entire IPL with Bangalore. Despite Gayle finishing the tournament as the leading run-getter, the WICB said in a statement that the big-hitting batsman will not be recalled until he explains comments he gave in a radio interview in which he lambasted selectors. All-rounder Kieron Pollard has been recalled for the first two ODIs, while fast bowler Kemar Roach has been rested. Uncapped Jamaican left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie is the only change in the T20 squad which defeated Pakistan in St. Lucia in April. Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were not included in the Twenty20 squad having not played in the recent Caribbean Twenty20 tournament. Fast bowler Jerome Taylor has again been overlooked with selectors insisting he must play a full season of regional cricket to prove his fitness. West Indies and India will play five ODIs as well as three Tests.
