JEDDAH: An expatriate wanted in a criminal case was arrested by the Expatriate Administration when he tried to leave the country posing as an Umrah overstayer. The fingerprint system showed he has been wanted since 2009 in connection with a case in Khamees Mushayt. The East Asian man, who has a criminal record, was handed over to Jeddah Police. “This shows that some of those gathering in front of their consulates and embassies and under bridges are not necessarily overstayers who lost their documents or have no identification. They want to evade the responsibility of a crime or a violation by trying to get alternative identification papers under a different name from their consulates or embassies so they can flee the country,” said Major Muhammad Al-Hussein, spokesman for Makkah Passports Department.
