MADINA: The majority of the cases recorded by the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) branch in Madina since it opened 15 months ago, involved domestic violence, according to Dr. Muhammad Salem Al-Oufi, the branch supervisor. He said these cases are studied by specialists and followed up with relevant parties and authorities. Since the start of the year, the NSHR processed about 130 cases, of which 14 percent, or 20 cases, were connected to domestic violence. Last year domestic violence cases topped the list, with 70 out of 293 cases in total. Al-Oufi said the NSHR was able to solve some of the cases by getting the couples to reconcile. He added that 31 percent of cases received by the NSHR over the last six months were related to administration including corruption, financial and administrative irregularities.
