This comes in the wake of more than 100 engineers gathering Tuesday at the ministry's gates in Riyadh with placards protesting at the delay in drawing up the scale. One poster read: “Minister of Civil Service it is almost one month since you promised you would approve a salary scale for engineers. Where is our salary scale?” This refers to their meeting with the minister in April during which he said, “It is better to raise your demands through official channels than to gather like women.” When Al-Fayez arrived at the gate in his car, he was warmly welcomed by the protesting engineers. When they asked him whether he had received their message, he answered: “Yes, the message has been conveyed.” He told them the salary scale was being studied by the Council of Civil Service and will be submitted to the King within 45 days.
