NEW YORK: The Kingdom has done a great deal to ensure the country develops on a sustainable basis, said Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, General President of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection (PEMA). He made the comment in a speech delivered at the 19th session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development which wound up Friday in New York. He said the development of the mining industry, including transparent policies and activities, was important for sustainable development in the country. He also reviewed progress in the electricity, water and transport sectors which are helping to protect the environment. He stressed the need to reach a common understanding on the principles governing the definition of hazardous waste and ways to improve quality of life by reducing toxic emissions, waste and pollutants.
