MAKKAH/TAIF: Through Sunday, 3,542 people have been registered in Makkah to vote in municipal elections, according to Jamal Al-Hendi, head of the city's Municipal Election Information Center. Khaled Al-Haij, Undersecretary for Construction and Projects in the Makkah Mayoralty, called on citizens to interact with municipal councils and register to guarantee participation in the elections and decision-making. In Taif, centers recorded about 8,000 voters including those who registered for the first time and others who changed their districts because they have shifted their residences. There are 43 centers to receive voters from 16 electoral districts in Taif. Muhammad Al-Mukhrij, Mayor of Taif and head of the Local Elections Committee, said registration turnout there was good and added that people are aware of the importance of participating in the election process. “Daily turnout for registration cannot be regarded as an indication of how the turnout in elections will be because many people registered during the last elections,” he said. Al-Mukhrij added that every citizen has the right to participate in elections if he is above 21 years of age and lives in the electoral district where he wants to vote.
