Zinedine Zidane has said that nothing can prevent Real Madrid from signing Cristiano Ronaldo if the Manchester United winger really wants to join the Spanish powerhouse. While United refuses to consider offers for Ronaldo, who has four years left on his contract, Zidane suggested this won't be enough to retain the 23-year-old star. “It depends on his personal wishes. If Ronaldo wants to play for Madrid, he will. Real Madrid has shown that when it wants a player, it gets him. That club is not afraid of paying a lot of money for a player,” Zidane was quoted as saying by sports daily Marca on Monday. The Portugal winger has already given a series of heavy hints that he wants to move to Madrid. Following Portugal's elimination from the European championship last Thursday, he said a statement on his wishes was imminent. Zidane said he expected his world record $65 million move to Madrid from Juventus in 2001 to be beaten if Ronaldo arrived at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. “Madrid is prepared to pay even more for Cristiano than for me. If he comes to Spain it will be for a great sum, without doubt,” said the former France star, who turned 36 on Monday. Madrid coach Bernd Schuster echoed Zidane's sentiments when he told German television channel DSF at the weekend that his club was willing to spend what was necessary to sign Ronaldo – even if it meant a fee of $155 million. However, Madrid President Ramon Calderon has said that his club is powerless to intervene if United won't sell. United has been so annoyed by what it sees as Madrid's attempts to lure Ronaldo that it recently lodged an official complaint with FIFA. World football's governing body said it will take no action against Madrid because no regulations had been broken, although it warned the Spanish club of the potential legal consequences of inducing a player to breach his contract without just cause. Ronaldo, who has been at Old Trafford for five years, scored 42 goals last season to help United become European and Premier League champion.
