RIYADH: Combating the scourge of drugs and the positive and negative effects of the Internet was the main focus of discussions at a symposium hosted by Naif Arab University for Security Sciences here, Monday. Participants included 60 specialists from the ministries of Interior, Justice, Culture and Information, Social Affairs, and Education, and experts from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Sudan, Qatar, Lebanon and Yemen. The symposium is aimed at discussing ways to track dealers and drug money on the web and how the Internet is being used by dealers to communicate. Dr. Jamaan Bin Raquosh, Vice President of the university, said combating drugs was a main goal of the university. The university's first initiative more than 30 years ago was directed toward combating drugs, he said. He said the university has accomplished several achievements through its training programs, studies and research. Dr. Hasan Taleb, Dean of the university's Research and Studies Center, emphasized the importance of the symposium and its goals. The participants discussed the link between the Internet and drug dealing and prevention. There was also discussion on drug plantations, consumption patterns, global production hubs and how social networking sites can be used to combat drugs.
