RIYADH: King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, approved Monday the designs for the 500,000 housing units he ordered to be constructed across the country in the Royal Decrees he issued in March. King Abdullah viewed models and maps of the plans for villas and apartments in the company of Shuwaish Al-Dhuwaihi, Minister of Housing, who explained the areas, features and costs involved in the works. The Monarch also saw a display depicting the 35 projects which the General Housing Commission had already begun for the construction of 15,000 housing units in various regions. These units will come under the authority of the new housing ministry immediately upon their completion. King Abdullah, who thanked Minister Al-Dhuwaihi and his colleagues for their work on the projects, reiterated the need for “speed and quality” in their execution and said that he would personally follow the progress of the works “step by step”.
