JEDDAH: A drunken man damaged a number of vehicles on a Jeddah street while trying to escape in a stolen car, police said. An Egyptian man told police Saturday that three youths tried to steal his vehicle and that they escaped as he approached them, but he wrote down their car license plate number. Security authorities took immediate action to track down the youths, according to Brig. Gen. Misfer Al-Je'aid, spokesman of Jeddah Police, who said that initial investigations indicated that the youths' car was stolen and an all-points bulletin was issued by Al-Kandarah District Police in Jeddah. Authorities received a report that the youths had tried to steal another car, which necessitated tightening control on all probable locations, officials said. A team cornered the car and arrested the driver in his 30s. He admitted that two of his companions helped him try to steal the Egyptian's car, officials said. General Al-Je'aid added that a security pursuit is going on to track down the escapees and that the man caught by authorities was drunk and had damaged several cars during his escape attempt.
