Jeddah in which I live a part of the year has nothing of the elements of modern cities. Thus, it has no character or cultural identity. It a mere collection of deaf stones, cement towers and glass. You go to it and live for a while as much as you are destined to live there but it does leave any impression in yourself. It is true that all cities are made of stones but in some cities, such as Rome, the stones are talking ones which represent witnesses expressing its history. The most distinguishing factor in cities that provides it with an identity is represented by its museums, public parks, libraries and cinemas together with art galleries and lectures halls but Jeddah has got nothing of these. However, there is a hope of that it is going to take its place among the cities as Abdul-Latif Jameel's Social initiatives has launched the "Art is Beautiful" initiative recently. The said initiative is willing to establish an international entity which gathers the artists, in particular, and Art lovers in Saudi Arabia together with Jeddah visitors, in general, in one place which shall be called "Art is Beautiful House." The said initiative has dedicated SR 100 million Saudi for this project aiming at making "Art is Beautiful House" a meeting center for artists of various specializations for the sake of helping them to develop their abilities and promote their works in various sectors. There shall be many halls for the Islamic art, the local and visiting international exhibitions, grand hall for lectures, artistic theater and open museum for exposing aesthetic maquettes and sculptures. The main objective behind this initiative is supporting the Saudi artists and discovering the most prominent skills in the Kingdom ... etc. Through this initiative, Abdul-Latif Jameel's establishment shall be providing a model of the noble feeling of its being in charge of serving the community through which it is achieving its profits. We wish the other companies to act in a similar way to it.
