People of the city of Jazan, provinces of Sabia and Abu-Areesh and a number of other provinces and villages in Jazan region have felt an earthquake for seconds this evening but no damages or losses reported. In reports to the Saudi Press Agency, they said chairs and other appliances at homes shaked for a very short time but no harms were caused. On the other hand, Civil Defense authority in Jazan region said the National Center for Seism and Volcanoes has reported the occurrence of an earthquake some 50 km north east of the city of Jazan at 6:00 pm measuring 5.1 on Richter scale. Captain Mohammed bin Hasan Al Samaan, spokesman of the civil defense in the region, said the Command and Control operation room has not received any report on damages of properties or losses of life. For his part, the Director General of the National Center for Seism and Volcanoes Hani Zahran, told SPA that the quake lies at a depth of 10 km with its epicenter at 50 km north east of the city of Jazan, 20 km north of Sabia and 13 km east of Beesh. He added that no aftershocks felt in the areas hit by the quake.
