The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Mualimi opened here today the Third Workshop on the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, regarding the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Al-Mualimi said that this workshop is sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the United Nations and comes as part of a program that was agreed upon with the Security Council Committee on Resolution 1540 under which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia donated $ 500,000 to help the Committee carry out its tasks. He also said that this workshop is pursuant to the successful workshops held in New York, December 2012, and Riyadh, January 2013. The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations said 'The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirms its support for the Resolution 1540 and the subsequent resolutions, especially the UN Security Council Resolution 1977 (2011), stressing that the implementation of these resolutions can only be achieved by concerted international efforts to develop common mechanisms and database that enhance this trend. The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Security Council Committee on Resolution 1540, Heads of Arab States' Missions in the United Nations and representatives of relevant international organizations, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
