U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to Thailand, Burma and Cambodia from November 17 to November 20, the White House said Thursday. According to a statement from White House spokesman Jay Carney, Obama will meet with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok to mark 180 years of diplomatic relations between the nations and reaffirm their strong alliance. Carney said that the president will meet with Burmese President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi in Rangoon to discuss civil society and encourage the country's ongoing democratic transition. Finally, Obama will attend the East Asia Summit and meet with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations while in Phnom Penh, the spokesman said. 'During his interactions in the region he will discuss a broad range of issues including economic prosperity and job creation through increased trade and partnerships, energy and security cooperation, human rights, shared values and other issues of regional and global concern,' Carney said.
