"There is a category of people among the therapists who cure from magic and dreams interpreters who have no concern except for cheating people. The individual leaves their houses with more of worry and gloom in his heart as they delude him, convince him that he is infected by magic and evil eye and push him towards continuing his therapy with them for a long period that may reach six months during which they extort a lot of money from him"!! This is a part from last Friday's preach for His eminence Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Alshaikh, Mufti (chief preacher) of the Kingdom. When this warning comes from a very important religious character as him; it shall be realized that the case exceeded its known objectives towards breaking the scientific or non scientific medical rules. It may be that fooling people's minds due to people's weakness in front of sickness and their strive for any hope that may save them, the weakness of the religious restraint & the lack of knowledge in regard to such exploiters & illusion sellers intentions caused a lot of people to be depending on them. In a similar way; some of those who claim curing people by Herbal Medicine caused blood poisoning and kidney failure to some people. A famous prescription which advised the patient to use breaks oil was prescribed to a man who was suffering a skin disease and led to his death while another one advised the patient to use Clorox cleaner for cleaning his teeth which caused him a chronic cancer in mouth. These are dangerous acts in which the offending person has not been held accountable and the victim couldn't get his right. Another incident is similar to the myths. Some young men broke into a deserted hospital in Arqa (an area) and other places during a search for finding the genies. Such incident cannot be interpreted as an adventure of reckless young men as it happened because of intellectual and mental closure and due to the spread of "Myth Culture" & the required separation between the religious & the absurd stuff. Few years ago, there was a rumor about a human who was turned to an animal and another one about a deserted house from which unknown voices are heard, which led most people to fear entering it. It had been discovered later that a real estate agent was behind the rumor that led the people to keep away from the house. Owners of that house and other people who believed the rumor were surprised when that agent bought that house and lived in it. He claimed that he Kicked the genies out of the house through the help of a man who used to recite verses of the wholly book in it. It was a trick invented by a clever man for owning a house against a very cheap price. I listen some times to the explanations of dreams interpreters. A woman described a dream she saw to one of them and he confirmed to her that a gentleman shall ask marriage from her soon, although she is a married woman whose husband is living with, rather than the three children they have got! Another retired man who is in sixties was told by a dreams interpreter that he shall get a job soon. There are many other similar incidents, too. I even laugh when I remember the funny plays of Hussein Abdul Ridha when he used to include in his prescriptions things like a cross-eyed cock or killing a black cat for getting rid of the magic. It is as if we are returning to the book of "The old man's return to his youth time" or the miracle achieved by the fat, blood and brain of "Al Sagangour." (a mythical character). It is true that such tales, medicines, talking to the genies, magic & evil eye are believed by many people in most countries of the world, including seeing the ghosts by which London was famous due to its deserted palaces but when the case reaches the stage of the exploitation which victims are the citizens; it shall be considered a case beyond the legislative principles due to that he who causes death is similar to him who kills. Such problem should be treated by the power of the state and its legislative, security or medical bodies as following the myth to the stage of treating a patient who is suffering cancer or hepatitis in a challenging way that science is unable to believe assures to us that some people among us are living the illusion and believing that it is true. The danger of such kind of thinking is that it represents a respect & consolidation for the myth & a separation between the miracles of the Creator and miracles of the individuals who have no distinction except for fooling people's minds.
