The Joint Forces Command "Targeting a home In Faj Attan was an incident. procedures of handing this incident over to the joint incident assessment team (JIAT) are under way"
Published in Alriyadh on 26 - 08 - 2017

Following up what the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition (Coalition to Restore Legitimate Government of Yemen) issued in regards to the allegations of targeting a house in Faj Attan (South of Sana'a) earlier this Friday, the official spokesman of the Coalition, Col. Turki Al-Malki, stated that the Joint Forces Command has completed its After-Action Review for conducted operational missions, as well as a comprehensive review of nominated military targets including planning and vetting, and verifying its compliance with the International Humanitarian Law and its customary principles relevant to targeting (military necessity, discrimination, proportionality and humanity), in addition to the Coalitions' rules of engagement.
"It is discern that the planned military target is a legitimate one in the form of a command and control center/COMM that belongs to the Huthi militants. This center was created with the sole purpose of using the surrounding areas as well as its civilians as shields to protect it."
He added, "Documents and procedures regarding operational planning and execution have shown that this step was carried out correctly, and that this incident was caused by a technical error, which led to the unfortunate incident and the alleged indirect targeting of said house."
Col. Al-Malki, in the name of the Joint Forces Command, expresses his remorse for the unfortunate incident and collateral damage to the civilians, and conveys his deepest sympathies and condolences to their families and loved ones.
He assured that the Joint Forces Command has promptly began the procedures of handing this unfortunate incident over to the Joint Incident Assessment Team (JIAT), in order to complete all relevant procedures, emphasizing that the Coalition is fully committed to implementing the International Humanitarian Law principles especially those related to civilian protection and the use of highest targeting standards.
The Joint Forces Command is legally and morally committed to transparency in such incidents.
Col. Turki al-Maliki
