A World War II bomb that was discovered unexploded in the northern Germany city of Hanover has been successfully detonated, according to dpa. The approximately 6,500 people who were evacuated from their homes on Tuesday are to return to them during the evening hours, the fire department said. A nursing home was among the properties evacuated. The bomb couldn't be defused and had to undergo a controlled detonation. The bomb was found during building work on a patch of land.
