The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today welcomed the appointment of the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission to examine the facts and circumstances of recent human rights violations allegedly committed by the military and security forces and abuses registered in Myanmar, in particular Rakhine State. The kingdom urged the Government of Myanmar to cooperate fully with the mission, including making available the results of the local investigations of the commission of inquiry headed by the vice president of the republic and other relevant information. In a speech to the 35th Session of the Human Rights Council, the kingdom's ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Abdel Aziz Al-Wasel said that the violations against the Rohingya Muslims continue to be brutally pursued and strongly condemned these continued violations. He reiterated the kingdom's position that the Human Rights Council must address these violations and alleviate the suffering of the Rohingya Muslims and compel Myanmar to respect its international obligations to promote and protect human rights without any discrimination. He called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to continue monitoring the implementation of the measures promised by the new government in Myanmar and its impact on ending violations against the Muslims of Rohingya.
