Saudi Arabia has remained patient with Qatar for long, despite Doha's continued inclination to shun its commitments. The Kingdom always sought to support peace and stability in Qatar, while ignoring the hostile posturing by the government, in the interest of the common Qatari people who share a common ethnicity with Saudis. The Kingdom has taken a decisive stand by cutting off relations with Qatar. The decision was a natural consequence of serious violations committed by the authorities in Doha over the last several years. These actions were aimed at creating a rift within the Kingdom and inciting anger against the state. According to a statement released by an official Monday, the Qatari authorities have supported a number of terrorist and extremist organizations, including the Brotherhood, Daesh and Al-Qaida. Though these organizations work to create instability in the region, Doha regularly propagates their thoughts through its media. The Saudi official said, "The decisive decision to sever ties was the result of Qatar's support to Iran-backed terrorist organizations in Al-Qatif in Saudi Arabia, as well as in Bahrain. It was also due to its financing and harboring of extremists who are trying to harm the stability and unity of the Kingdom, besides using its media to try fomenting internal trouble." He added, "Saudi Arabia has also learnt of Doha's support for the revolutionary Houthi militias even after the formation of the coalition to support the legitimate government in Yemen. The Kingdom has taken the decision in coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is also the target of campaigns and terrorist activities supported by the authorities in Doha," said the official. The source has said that since 1995, Saudi Arabia and its allies were making continuous efforts to prevail on Doha to fulfill its commitments by abiding by the GCC agreements it has signed to fight terrorist organizations. The latest of these violations came soon after signing of the Riyadh agreements last month.
