Iran is taking Qataris for a ride, warns former Jordanian minister
Published in Alriyadh on 28 - 05 - 2017

Former Jordanian Information Minister Dr Saleh Al-Qallab has warned against the maneuvers of Qatari politicians to deceive their people into supporting the policies of the Iranian regime for their own political gains.
In an interview to Al-Riyadh Arabic daily, Al-Qallab said, "We hope the relations between the friendly people of Qatar and the Arab world remain brotherly, without any conflict between them. Qatari politics should not be a source of trouble, particularly at a time when the region needs to be united, just as demonstrated at the Riyadh summit, which was a proud moment for the entire Arab-Muslim world."
The summit established the fact that only Riyadh could bring all Arabs and Muslims together in one platform.
Al-Qallab added that provocative actions, particularly at this point of time, were disturbing not only to Arab governments, but also to the people. He asked: How can Qatar defend the criminal Iranian regime against the will of the people?
He noted that it would also be wise on the part of Qatar to not differ with Egypt. But, on the contrary, it was supporting the Brotherhood terrorists. What was the reason for Qatar to oppose Egypt? "We expect an answer from the Qatari leadership as to why it seeks support for Iran when it is a supporter of terror," he said.
Many Arab countries had once extended their hands of friendship to Iran. But Iran is pursuing a policy of interference in the affairs of the Arab countries. It has completely occupied Iraq. It is supporting terrorism in Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen. Despite all this, Qatar thinks that Iran is a wise country, Al-Qallab lamented..
Qatar was well aware of the fact that Iran was seeking to restore "Persian glory" under the Shiite garb. To meet this end, it was exploiting Shiite sentiments to spread sedition, he said. "If Qatar wanted Arabs to establish good relations with Iran, it should convince Tehran to withdraw from Iraq and Syria, and stop meddling in the affairs of Yemen, Lebanon and Palestine."
Qatar was trying to divert the Arab world's attention from the Riyadh summit. But it would not be successful, particularly since the Arab and Islamic world has demonstrated their unity in Riyadh. The decisions which were taken at the Riyadh summit would be successfully implemented because the Saudi Arabian capital is the center of the Arab and Islamic world.
Al-Qallab further said that Qatar must apologize and commit to the Arab Islamic agreement and expel all terrorist organizations. Shunning terror is a virtue, he emphasized.
"Doha alone is not a powerful country. It is in its own interest that it aligns with other Arab and Gulf countries. It must realize this fact before it is too late. If it continues in this direction, it is the people of Qatar who would suffer. Whoever follows Iran's agenda would be ruined as Tehran has its own interests before anything else. Its objectives in the region were laid out by Khomeini, and these include fomenting trouble inside the Gulf states and spark disunity among them."
Al-Qallab was of the view that the people of Qatar were well aware of the Iranian regime's support for terrorism and its shrewd interference in Arab affairs. "It is absolutely essential that Qatar returns to the Arab Islamic fold and adhere to the declaration made at the Riyadh summit," he stressed.
