Cheaper and faster broadband could be on the way after BT was told to open up its telegraph poles and tunnels to rivals. Communications regulator Ofcom has ordered BT to give competitors access to the infrastructure owned by its network arm Openreach. It said the move would make it ‘cheaper and easier' for rivals - such as Virgin Media and Sky – to provide broadband. Ofcom said: ‘People increasingly need fast, reliable broadband. 'This will put other providers on a level playing field, so they have confidence to invest in their own full-fibre network.'
