Terrorism has raised its ugly head again – in Egypt, in Sweden... and where else in future? Acts of terror are against humankind and do not differentiate on grounds of religion, gender or age. It is a challenge to all countries, and will remain so as long as international anti-terror efforts are not unified. Terrorism does not have its roots in weapons, but in extremism and deviant ideologies that are against the basic tenets of humanity. They twist and manipulate religious texts, far from their original meaning, with the sole aim of luring people to adopt the violent path. The conflict areas of the Arab world are hot breeding grounds for terrorists. The harsh living conditions in these regions, and the prevailing socioeconomic and political environment, only aggravate the problem. Syria is a clear example of a hotspot for terror organizations that are constantly seeking to instigate the masses into carrying out terrorist acts. People in these conflict zones are oblivious to the realities of life and death. They'd prefer to adopt a belief that advocates death rather than live under oppression and humiliation. The crimes committed by the Syrian regime against humankind are pure fodder for terror. The brutal regime is indifferent to the sufferings of the people. The Khan Shaykon massacre is only a tip of the proverbial iceberg, with scores of regime-inspired crimes of mass murder and mayhem under the surface. And then there is Iran. We cannot simply sweep the Iran-backed terror under the carpet. It is a source of terror not only in the Arab region, but across the world with its strong support for global terrorist organizations. The war on terror rages on, with no end in sight. It is high time that the world gets its act together and put up a united front against this menace, before it engulfs the human race.
