The Traffic Directorate has denied issuing any statements on permitting women to drive as talked about in the social media, emphasizing that no date has been set for lifting the restriction. Col. Tariq Al-Rubaiean, a spokesman for the General Directorate of Traffic, said that no action has been initiated in this regard. Social media users had reported that the ban would be lifted next month. Saudi officials have repeatedly explained that the driving issue had social dimensions and was not based on any religious considerations. Women are allowed to register cars under their names in Saudi Arabia.
